First-Party Email & Calendar
Current State
Today SynergyOS ships an email and calendar client that connects to Microsoft 365 Exchange. Exchange handles sending/receiving; SynergyOS manages the UI, organization in the unified folder tree, and attachment handling.
What We Are Considering
Build a native SynergyOS email and calendar backend service so mail, events, files, and tasks live in one system with one permission model.
Highlights we are evaluating
- Mailboxes, domains, aliases, groups managed in SynergyOS Admin.
- SMTP submission and inbound mail with DKIM, SPF, DMARC and anti-spam/phishing quarantine.
- Calendars with invites, shared calendars, resource booking, ICS import/export, and time-zone smart scheduling.
- Unified storage model: messages, threads, attachments, and events are first-class “items” in the same folder tree as files and notes.
- Rules & automation: server-side rules, webhooks, and agents to route messages, extract data, and auto-file attachments.
- Advanced search & retention: metadata, tagging, legal hold, journaling, and configurable retention policies.
- Interoperability: gateways for IMAP/SMTP and Microsoft Graph to ease migration or hybrid setups.
- Deliverability controls: per-domain sending limits, feedback loops, and bounce analytics.
- Regional deployment: keep data in-region to meet residency requirements.
Why It Matters
- One permission model across email, files, notes, and calendars.
- Lower friction: file emails and attachments directly into project folders, no duplication.
- Reliability & latency improvements for workflows that span apps.
- Compliance by design: consistent retention, auditability, and org-wide policies.
Risks & Trade-offs
- Running mail at scale requires 24×7 operations, deliverability tuning, and constant anti-abuse work.
- Some M365 enterprise features may not exist on day one; hybrid mode mitigates this.
- Migration from legacy mailboxes needs careful planning for archives and aliases.
